Joy in Suffering: Despite writing from a place of physical confinement ("in my chains"), Sha'ul repeatedly emphasizes rejoicing. He views his imprisonment not as a failure, but as a catalyst that has advanced the besorah (good news/gospel) and emboldened other believers to speak the word of Elohim without fear.
The Mindset of Messiah (Humility): A central pillar of the letter is the call to unity and selflessness. Believers are urged to abandon rivalry and empty glory, and instead adopt the humble mindset of Messiah Yeshua, who emptied Himself, took the form of a servant, and was obedient even unto death on the execution-stake.

Chapter 1 The Advancement of the Besorah (Good News) Amidst Chains

1 Sha’ul [Paul] and Timoteos (Timothy), avadim (servants) of Yeshua HaMashiach; to all the kedoshim [saints] in Mashiach Yeshua who are at Philippi [Philippi], with the overseers and mesharetim [deacons].
2 Chesed [Grace] to you, and shalom [Peace] from Elohim Avinu [God our Father], and from Adon [Lord] Yeshua HaMashiach [Jesus the Messiah].
3 I give todah [thanks] to my Elohim in every remembrance of you,
4 Always in all my tefillot [prayers] making supplication for you all, with simchah [joy];
5 For your fellowship in the besorah [gospel] of Mashiach from the first day until now.
6 Being confident of this very thing, that He who began a tov [good] work in you will perfect it until the day of Mashiach Yeshua.
7 It is right for me to think this way about you all, because I have you in my heart; and in my chains, and in the defense and confirmation of the besorah, you all are partakers with me of this simchah.
8 For Elohim is my witness, how I long for you all with the rachamim [mercies] of Mashiach Yeshua.
9 And this I pray, that your ahavah [love] may abound more and more in da’at [knowledge] and in all binah [understanding];
10 That you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offence until the day of Mashiach;
11 Being filled with the fruit of tzedakah [righteousness], through Yeshua HaMashiach, unto the kavod [glory] and tehillah [praise] of Elohim.
12 Now, achim [brethren], I want you to know that the things which have happened to me have actually advanced the besorah;
13 So that my chains in Mashiach have become well known in all the palace and in all other places;
14 And many of the achim in Adon, having become confident by my chains, are much more bold to speak the Word of Elohim without fear.
15 Some indeed proclaim Mashiach out of kin’ah [envy] and rivalry; but some also out of tov ratzon [good will].
16 The latter out of ahavah, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the besorah.
17 The former proclaim Mashiach out of rivalry, not sincerely, thinking to add affliction to my chains.
18 But what then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Mashiach is proclaimed; and in this I rejoice, yes, and will rejoice.
19 For I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your tefillot and the supply of the Ruach [Spirit] of Yeshua HaMashiach,
20 According to my earnest expectation and tikvah [hope], that in nothing I will be ashamed, but with all boldness, as always, so now also Mashiach will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death.
21 For to me, to live is Mashiach, and to die is gain.
22 But if I live on in the flesh, this will mean fruit from my labor; yet what I shall choose I do not know.
23 For I am hard pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Mashiach, which is far better.
24 Nevertheless to remain in the flesh is more needful for you.
25 And being confident of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all for your progress and simchah (joy) in emunah [faith],
26 That your rejoicing may abound in Mashiach Yeshua on account of me, by my coming to you again.
27 Only let your conduct be worthy of the besorah of Mashiach, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you, that you stand fast in one ruach [spirit], with one nefesh [soul] striving together for the emunah of the besorah.
28 And in no way be terrified by your adversaries, which to them is a sign of destruction, but to you of deliverance, and that from Elohim.
29 For to you it has been granted on behalf of Mashiach, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for Him,
30 Having the same conflict which you saw in me and now hear is in me.

Chapter 2 The Humble Mindset and Exaltation of the Messiah

1 If there is therefore any nechamah [consolation] in Mashiach, if any comfort of ahavah [love], if any fellowship of the Ruach [Spirit], if any rachamim [mercies] and compassion:
2 Fulfill my simchah [joy], that you may be of one mind, having the same ahavah, being of one accord, and of one sentiment.
3 Let nothing be done through rivalry or hevel kavod [vain glory]; but in humility, let each esteem others better than themselves.
4 Let each one not look only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Mashiach Yeshua:
6 Who, being in the form of Elohim, did not consider it robbery to be equal with Elohim;
7 But emptied Himself, taking the form of an eved [servant], being made in the likeness of men.
8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself, becoming obedient unto death—even death on the etz [tree/cross].
9 Therefore Elohim also highly exalted Him, and gave Him the Name which is above every name,
10 That at the Name of Yeshua every knee should bow—of those in heaven, on earth, and under the earth;
11 And that every tongue should confess that Adon Yeshua HaMashiach is in the kavod [glory] of Elohim the Father.
12 Therefore, my beloved achim, as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence but much more now in my absence, work out your yeshuah [salvation] with fear and trembling.
13 For it is Elohim who works in you both to will and to accomplish according to His tov ratzon [good pleasure].
14 Do all things without murmurings and disputes,
15 That you may be blameless and pure, banim [children] of Elohim without blemish, in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world.
16 Holding fast the davar chayim [word of life], so that I may rejoice in the day of Mashiach, that I have not run in vain nor labored in vain.
17 Yes, and if I am poured out as a drink offering on the sacrifice and service of your emunah, I rejoice and share simchah with you all.
18 And for the same reason you also rejoice and share simchah with me.
19 But I trust in Adon Yeshua to send Timoteos to you shortly, that I also may be encouraged when I know your state.
20 For I have no one else of like mind, who will sincerely care for your welfare.
21 For all seek their own, not the things of Yeshua HaMashiach.
22 But you know his proven character, that as a son with a father he served with me in the besorah.
23 Therefore I hope to send him at once, as soon as I see how it will go with me.
24 And I trust in Adon that I myself shall also come to you shortly.
25 Yet I considered it necessary to send to you Epaphroditos, my brother, fellow worker, and fellow soldier, but your shaliach [apostle], and the one who ministered to my needs.
26 For he longed for you all, and was distressed because you had heard that he was sick.
27 Indeed he was sick, near to death; but Elohim had mercy on him, and not only on him but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.
28 Therefore I sent him more eagerly, that when you see him again you may rejoice, and I may be less sorrowful.
29 Receive him therefore in Adon with all simchah, and hold men like him in honor.
30 Because for the work of Mashiach he came near to death, not regarding his life, to supply what was lacking in your service toward me.

Chapter 3 Counting All as Loss to Gain the Heavenly Prize

1 As to the rest, my achim [brethren], rejoice in Adon. To write the same things to you is not wearisome for me, but for you it is necessary.
2 Beware of the kelevim [dogs], beware of the po’alei ra [evil workers], beware of the katit [concision].
3 For we are the brit-milah [circumcision], who serve Elohim in the Ruach, and glory in Mashiach Yeshua, not having confidence in the flesh.
4 Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If anyone else thinks he may have confidence in the flesh, I more:
5 Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Yisrael, of the tribe of Binyamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; according to the Torah, a Perush [Pharisee];
6 According to zeal, persecuting the kahal Elohim [assembly of God]; according to the tzedakah that is in the Torah, blameless.
7 But what things were gain to me, those I have counted as loss for Mashiach.
8 Furthermore I count all things as loss compared to the surpassing value of knowing Mashiach Yeshua my Adon; for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as solet [dung/refuse], that I may gain Mashiach,
9 And be found in Him, not having my own tzedakah which is from the Torah, but that which is through emunah in Mashiach Yeshua—the tzedakah from Elohim by emunah.
10 That I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,
11 If by any means I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.
12 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Mashiach Yeshua has also laid hold of me.
13 Achim, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do: forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,
14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the shamayim [heavenly] calling of Elohim in Mashiach Yeshua.
15 Therefore, let as many as are mature be of this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, Elohim will reveal even this to you.
16 Nevertheless, to the degree that we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us be of the same mind.
17 Be imitators of me, achim, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a model.
18 For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are enemies of the etz [cross] of Mashiach;
19 Whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose kavod is in their shame—who set their minds on earthly things.
20 But our citizenship is in shamayim (heaven) from which we also eagerly wait for the Moshia [Savior], Adon Yeshua HaMashiach,
21 Who will transform our lowly body to be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.

Chapter 4 The Secret of Contentment and the Peace of Elohim

1 Therefore, my dearly beloved achim [brethren], and most desired, my simchah [joy] and my crown; so stand fast in Adon, my dearly beloved.
2 I plead with Evodia and I beseech Syntyche, to be of one mind in Adon.
3 And I entreat you also, my faithful chaver [companion], help those women who labored with me in the besorah, with Klemes [Clement] and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are written in the Sefer HaChayim [Book of Life].
4 Rejoice in Adon always; again I say, rejoice.
5 Let your anavah [gentleness/modesty] be known to all men. Adon is near.
6 Be anxious for nothing; but in everything, by tefillah [prayer] and supplication, with todah [thanksgiving], let your requests be made known to Elohim.
7 And the shalom [peace] of Elohim, which surpasses all binah [understanding], will guard your hearts and minds in Mashiach Yeshua.
8 Finally, achim, whatever things are emet [true], whatever are noble, whatever are tzedek [just], whatever are kadosh [holy], whatever are lovely, whatever are of good report—if there is any virtue, if any tehillah [praise]—think on these things.
9 The things which you have learned, received, heard, and seen in me, do these; and the Elohim of shalom will be with you.
10 I rejoiced greatly in Adon, that now at last your concern for me has flourished again; though you surely did care, but lacked opportunity.
11 Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content.
12 I know how to be humbled, and I know how to abound. In every place and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
13 I can do all things through Mashiach who strengthens me.
14 Nevertheless you have done well in sharing with me in my tribulation.
15 And you also know, O Philippians, that in the beginning of the besorah, when I departed from Makedonia [Macedonia], no kahal [assembly/church] shared with me concerning giving and receiving, but you only.
16 For even in Thessalonike [Thessalonica] you sent aid once and again for my needs.
17 Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that abounds to your account.
18 But I have all, and abound. I am filled, having received from Epaphroditos the things you sent, a re’ach nichoach [fragrant aroma], an acceptable zevach [sacrifice], well-pleasing to Elohim.
19 And my Elohim shall supply all your needs according to His riches in kavod in Mashiach Yeshua.
20 Now to Elohim and Avinu [our Father] be kavod forever and ever. Amen.
21 Greet every kadosh [saint] in Mashiach Yeshua.
22 The achim who are with me greet you. All the kedoshim greet you, especially those of Caesar’s household.
23 The chesed [grace] of Adon Yeshua HaMashiach be with your ruach [spirit]. Amen.
