Chaggai (Haggai)

Chapter 1 The Call to Build the Beit Yahuah and the Response of the She'erit

1 In the second year of Daryavesh (Darius) the melech (king), in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, the davar Yahuah (word of the Lord) came by the hand of the navi (prophet) Chaggai, saying, Speak to Zerubbavel the son of She'altiel, of the shevet (tribe) of Yehudah, and to Yeshua the son of Yehozadak, the Kohen HaGadol (high priest), saying,
2 Thus saith Yahuah Tzeva'ot, saying, This am (people) say, The time is not come to build the Beit Yahuah (house of the Lord).
3 And the davar Yahuah (word of the Lord) came by the hand of the navi (prophet) Chaggai, saying,
4 Is it time for you to dwell in your ceiled houses, whereas our Beit (house) is desolate?
5 And now thus saith Yahuah Tzeva'ot; Consider your ways, I pray you.
6 You have sown much, but brought in little; you have eaten, and are not satisfied; you have drunk, and are not satisfied with drink, you have clothed yourselves, and have not become warm thereby: and he that earns wages has gathered them into a bag full of holes.
7 Thus saith Yahuah Tzeva'ot; Consider your ways.
8 Go up to the mountain, and cut timber; build the Beit (house), and I will take pleasure in it, and be glorified, saith Yahuah.
9 You looked for much, and there came little; and it was brought into the house, and I blew it away. Therefore thus saith Yahuah Tzeva'ot, Because My Beit (house) is desolate, and you run every one into his own house;
10 therefore shall the sky withhold tal (dew), and the aretz (earth) shall keep back her produce.
11 And I will bring a cherev (sword) upon the aretz (land), and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the wine, and upon the oil, and all that the aretz (earth) produces, and upon the men, and upon the cattle, and upon all the labours of their hands.
12 And Zerubbavel the son of She'altiel, of the shevet (tribe) of Yehudah, and Yeshua the son of Yehozadak, the Kohen HaGadol (high priest), and all the she'erit (remnant) of the am (people), listened to the voice of Yahuah their Elohim, and the words of the navi (prophet) Chaggai, according as Yahuah their Elohim had sent him to them, and the am (people) feared before Yahuah.
13 And Chaggai, Yahuah's malach (messenger), spoke among the malachim (messengers) of Yahuah to the am (people), saying, I am with you, saith Yahuah.
14 And Yahuah stirred up the ruach (spirit) of Zerubbavel the son of She'altiel, of the shevet (tribe) of Yehudah, and the ruach (spirit) of Yeshua the son of Yehozadak, the Kohen HaGadol (high priest), and the ruach (spirit) of the she'erit (remnant) of all the am (people); and they went in, and wrought in the Beit Yahuah (house of the Lord) Tzeva'ot their Elohim,
15 on the four and twentieth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Daryavesh (Darius) the melech (king).

Chapter 2 The Greater Kavod of the Latter Beit, the Torah of the Kadosh, and the Chotam of Zerubbavel

1 In the seventh month, on the twenty-first day of the month, Yahuah spoke by Chaggai the navi (prophet), saying,
2 Speak now to Zerubbavel the son of She'altiel, of the shevet (tribe) of Yehudah, and to Yeshua the son of Yehozadak, the Kohen HaGadol (high priest), and to all the she'erit (remnant) of the am (people), saying,
3 Who is there of you that saw this Beit (house) in her former kavod (glory)? and how do you now look upon it, as it were nothing before your eyes?
4 Yet now be strong, O Zerubbavel, saith Yahuah; and strengthen yourself, O Yeshua the Kohen HaGadol (high priest), the son of Yehozadak; and let all the am (people) of the aretz (land) strengthen themselves, saith Yahuah, and work, for I am with you, saith Yahuah Tzeva'ot;
5 and My Ruach (Spirit) remains in the midst of you; be of good courage.
6 For thus saith Yahuah Tzeva'ot; Yet once I will shake the Shamayim (heaven), and the aretz (earth), and the yam (sea), and the dry land;
7 and I will shake all goyim (nations), and the choice portions of all the goyim (nations) shall come: and I will fill this Beit (house) with kavod (glory), saith Yahuah Tzeva'ot.
8 Mine is the kesef (silver), and Mine the zahav (gold), saith Yahuah Tzeva'ot.
9 For the kavod (glory) of this Beit (house) shall be great, the latter more than the former, saith Yahuah Tzeva'ot: and in this place will I give shalom (peace), saith Yahuah Tzeva'ot, even shalom (peace) of nefesh (soul) for a possession to every one that builds, to raise up this Heykhal (temple).
10 On the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Daryavesh (Darius), the davar Yahuah (word of the Lord) came to Chaggai the navi (prophet), saying,
11 Thus saith Yahuah Tzeva'ot; Inquire now of the kohanim (priests) concerning the Torah (law), saying,
12 If a man should take kadosh (holy) flesh in the skirt of his garment, and the skirt of his garment should touch bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat, shall it be kadosh (holy)? And the kohanim (priests) answered and said, No.
13 And Chaggai said, If a defiled person who is unclean by reason of a dead body, touch any of these, shall it be defiled? And the kohanim (priests) answered and said, It shall be defiled.
14 And Chaggai answered and said, So is this am (people), and so is this goy (nation) before Me, saith Yahuah; and so are all the works of their hands: and whosoever shall approach them, shall be defiled — because of their early burdens: they shall be pained because of their toils; and you have hated him that reproved in the gates.
15 And now consider, I pray you, from this day and beforetime, before they laid a stone on a stone in the Heykhal (temple) of Yahuah, what manner of men you were.
16 When you cast into the corn-bin twenty measures of barley, and there were only ten measures of barley: and you went to the vat to draw out fifty measures, and there were but twenty.
17 I smote you with barrenness, and with blasting, and all the works of your hands with hail; yet you returned not to Me, saith Yahuah.
18 Set your hearts now to think from this day and upward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, even from the day when the foundation of the Heykhal (temple) of Yahuah was laid;
19 consider in your hearts, whether this shall be known on the corn-floor, and whether yet the vine, and the fig-tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive-trees that bear no fruit are with you: from this day will I bless you.
20 And the davar Yahuah (word of the Lord) came the second time to Chaggai the navi (prophet), on the four and twentieth day of the month, saying,
21 Speak to Zerubbavel the son of She'altiel, of the shevet (tribe) of Yehudah, saying, I shake the Shamayim (heaven), and the aretz (earth), and the yam (sea), and the dry land;
22 and I will overthrow the thrones of kings, and I will destroy the power of the melachim (kings) of the goyim (nations); and I will overthrow chariots and riders; and the horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the cherev (sword) striving against his brother.
23 In that yom (day), saith Yahuah Tzeva'ot, I will take you, O Zerubbavel, the son of She'altiel, My eved (servant), saith Yahuah, and will make you as a chotam (signet seal): for I have chosen you, saith Yahuah Tzeva'ot.
